it`s christmas eve here in australia today and i wish all of you a very merry xmas simply because i can without being zapped , or hauled into a jc committee.. it doesn`t matter whether you are religious or not , i`m not now , however i can appreciate and respect those who do.. so whatever your views on the matter have a great day and enjoy the holidays in whatever grabs your fancy.. and if jw`s do come knocking on your door as they do this festive season wish them a merry xmas and anti-witness to them ..
Thanks, smiddy, you too and everyone else here.
Decorated my first Christmas tree this year (well, for a friend).
Yeah, saying Merry Christmas and feeling NO GUILT!
how many months consecutively does a jw have to miss turning in time to be inactive?.
A little more background on the subject. Not much has changed over the years:

because someone needs my help.. as a jw -- you can relate -- i truly believed that what everyone really needed was the kingdom hope and its eventual reality.
you know, the hope that does not lead to disappointment.
of course, if anyone needed practical help with a task or getting through some difficulty, most of us realized that was part of being a helpful and caring friend (or family member).. at nearly seventy years of age -- no, i didn't enter the promised kingdom in my healthful and vibrant youth -- my getting out of bed isn't so bad.
Last week I went to a job, such as I do every morning.
There was no heat in the building. Somehow, the "keep full" arrangement with the propane company had been overlooked. By the end of the day, the tank was filled and the heat back on.
A little thing, but the owners were pleased I got up that morning!

Thank you, Amelia Ashton, for sharing your thoughts and a photo of that precious little girl. Sorry it took so long to reply. Have I not gotten out of bed since you posted one month ago?!?!?!?
I understand about being a loner, or just being alone. Earlier today, as I was contemplating how I never see my family though close by, I figured I simply must accept what is. Some acquaintances are surrounded by family and are miserable. I have made new family and am doing all right.
Best Wishes.
my wife has held onto them like they were family heirlooms.
we are cleaning and clearing out accumulated stuff and i pointed out that there is the cd-rom library now and that the society has made revisions and really doesn't want us to be reading the old stuff.
she said that even though there have been changes to the teachings, the wrong understanding served its' purpose at the time.
FAHRENHEIT 451

is your retreat .
an actual location, or simply a quiet place in your mind?.
i attended a concert on sunday, a featured piece having been commissioned by a composer who lives in the city but retreats to an island in the puget sound (usa) to write his music.
Thanks, everyone, for sharing your photos and comments.
Even if it isn't the great outdoors I get away to, I appreciate how my house and animal sitting "career" get me into very nice homes for a few days or weeks at a time. Since I rent just a room (the house I'm in can get crazy at times), I enjoy being able to spread out in a full-size house, all to myself, and listen to classical music.
When back home, I block out the other's TV by shutting myself away in my room with white noise and music. And JWD.

Your opportunity may yet come . . . here's hoping. Thanks for your comment.

What a wonderful story! When taking similar treks nearby, I likewise allow my thoughts to drift back in time, imagining citizens of long ago and their activities where I now tread. It helps quiet me and set my life in proper perspective. Otherwise, simply drinking in the beauty of nature -- the forests, the mountains, the rivers, the clouded sky -- satisfies my aching soul.
If you go there today, we'd love to experience vicariously what you see.
Thank you.

Yes, a supposed waste of time, finding comfort and meaning in the words of men who actually do have a grasp on life. Even if you must read in secret, whatever snatches of time are afforded you, continue doing so.
We wish "to live deliberately" and not "practice resignation."
THANKS!

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion. -- Henry David Thoreau
